DESCRIPTION
This video clip refers to the phenomenon of Electromagnetic Induction, which gave an impulse to the growth of technology and telecommunications so that today we can enjoy services such as mobile telephony. The fundamental experiment was realized by the Danish physicist Oersted in 1820. Oersted observed that a compass needle jumped when electric current flowed through a wire placed near the compass. It no longer pointed north under the influence of Earth's magnetic field. It was apparently under the influence of another magnetic field. This experiment connects Electricity with Magnetism or the first time. Many other physicists then followed up on Oersted's pioneering discovery. Ultimately all magnetic fields are caused by changing electric fields, and changing magnetic fields as well as electric charges cause electric fields. A very important application of the Induction phenomenon was the construction of electric current’s generator between 1840-1850 during the 1st phase of the Industrial Revolution. For the first time using good conductor cables the produced electric energy is being transported in distant points. In 1887 Hertz accomplishes in the laboratory the production of electromagnetic waves for the first time (the electromagnetic theory of Maxwell had already been developed). Thus, transport of energy is achieved without cables. On a latter stage Marconi used electromagnetic waves in the telecommunications. As a result of this, we use today the mobile phones, these small miracles of technology.
