Most of Latvia's brain power comes from the distaff side, with 51% of researchers being women according to Eurostat data for 2015, the most recent data available.

That's against the EU average of 33.4%, with runners-off Lithuania and Croatia slightly behind with 50.7% and 48.9% respectively.

Meanwhile the Netherlands had the EU's most male-dominated science sector with just 25.4% researchers being women.

Sunday, February 11 was the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2018.
