Doc file with exercises that aim to familiarize students with reading for gist strategy, to give them the chance to guess how a letter ends, to decide on a solution to a problem and finally to write a letter giving advice and making suggestions. More specifically, students, organised in groups, are asked to read some letters in Dear Abby's column, to understand the main problem presented in each letter, to guess the endings that are missing, and after they have decided on the correct course of action, to write a letter to the reader of the column, giving him/her some advice and making some suggestions. Thus, students practise reading comprehension, along with oral and written production, through the meaningful use of advice and suggestions vocabulary.
